Indigo-dyed hemp, batik-waxed by hand and pieced with striped and appliquéd panels in the terraced highlands of northern Vietnam.
Hemp is grown, retted, and beaten into fibre within the same village where it will later be dyed in vats of fermented indigo.
Wax is drawn onto the cloth freehand with a copper-tipped tool before dyeing — no two panels resist the indigo in quite the same way.
